Landscaping a New Chicago Home

Posted By: admin  //  Category: House Staging

The purpose of this article is to provide you with some ideas that can help you make the most out of landscaping your new Chicago home.

New home landscaping can be defined as the art of conscious arrangement or organization of outdoor space for human satisfaction and enjoyment. Naturally a new home owner will want to make the landscape look as great as the interior of the house. If you just take a casual look at magazines or websites devoted to ‘new home landscaping’, you will find out that today your problem is not what to use but how to limit yourself to the most effective plants and materials for your particular landscape. The idea is to create a landscape that tells everyone who you are and makes your home even more beautiful. Below are some steps that could be useful for you to follow when designing and implementing your new home’s landscape.

You start your new home landscaping project with a plan. A landscaping plan typically shows an aerial view of the lot and notes the location of patios, sidewalks, trees, shrubs, flower beds, ponds and other features. To create this plan, you can either hire a landscape architect or contractor, or do it on your own. A landscape professional will visit the site and draw in detail every aspect of the yard, and design the landscaping.

Here is a guide if you want to create the landscaping plan on your own. First and foremost, get a layout diagram from the builder showing your property and its boundaries. Copy it and even enlarge it to a scale that you find useful and readable. It is advisable to make several copies as you will use them for different aspects of your work. With a copy of this in hand, walk around your property and take note of anything that may affect your design. Mark the location of trees, fences, utility lines, water, sidewalks, driveways. Indicate drainage patterns and slope of the land. After preparing the base plan, place tracing paper or tissue paper over the original plan to sketch possible ideas and solutions to your landscape needs and problems. The final goal is to get to know your property as much as possible and get a detailed vision of what you want to make out of it.

The next step is to create a vision in your mind of how you would like your new home landscape to look like. But what you should never forget is your budget. Plan before you make any purchases. Without a plan, you may buy things you don’t really need, and that can waste money. Only after you know exactly what you need for this project should you start buying supplies.

Your next task is to decide how you will go about doing your new home landscaping, which quite often depends on your budget as well. You have two options here: to make the whole project at once, or do it piece by piece, in stages. There are many instances when landscaping in stages is the best solution. For some home buyers, their budgets will not support a full scale project all at once so they find staging to be the best choice.

Even though home landscaping can’t be broken down to a series of rules, it may be helpful for the homeowner to keep the following design concepts in mind as the design develops:

1. Always choose building materials that fit into the overall look and feel of the landscape, materials that blend well in the natural environment or that may be found there.

2. Repeat materials and colors already used on the home in the landscaping.

3. Group similar plants together.

4. Regarding the trees, choose spots that have adequate sunlight and make sure the trees are protected from pests.

Home Staging and you

Posted By: admin  //  Category: Home Staging

In today’s high-stakes world of real estate sales you may, at some time be approached by your realtor and be asked to have your home staged. This process is becoming ever more popular in home sales and as it gains popularity it becomes ever more necessary; due to the fact that staged homes simply show better. This simple fact has led to the explosion of the Home Staging industry and it takes little effort to find a stager in almost any town or city.Any stager will operated along the same principles; get rid of clutter and mess and improve the visual qualities of all rooms. This is true in all staging as homes in their lived-in condition can sometimes be harder to sell as they do have that “lived in” look. This can make it more difficult to sell a home as places such as this tend to impart too much of the seller to the buyer, thereby making it hard for the buyer to gain a sense of comfort in the home.

Comfort for viewers is incredibly important, too many prospective sales have left homes because they just “don’t feel right.” Much of the time this is due to your daily items being in their line of sight, This is one reason why some stagers will suggest that you use rental furniture specially chosen for the staging process. With rental or replacement furniture, the stager can tailor colors and patterns to compliment the home and you can get started on your packing without having to worry about showing an empty home. Unfortunately ‘lived in” is not really the look you are shooting for here, what is preferable is the “showroom” look that you see in magazines and furniture stores. This has become the reality of home sales. Simply cleaning the home has ceased to be sufficient to ensure a quick sale and buyers are looking for something more in homes that they view and the responsibility to provide that has fallen to the seller. Sellers must supply more of a complete package than ever before and staging has proven to a great way to do this.

Jazz Up Your Home With The Contemporary Home Decorating Style

Posted By: admin  //  Category: Home Decorating

Decorating with the Contemporary home decorating style is a fantastic way to give your home a sleek and stylish look. Using this style you can get the feeling of modern design with contemporary style decorating no matter what type of home you have.

One of the first things you need to think about is furniture. You want to choose items that are sleek and made of simple woods or, perhaps, steel to enhance the contemporary home decorating style. Make sure you stick to pieces in a sleek linear style and don’t go for any floral or “old fashioned” style fabrics.

Window treatments is another important part of any interior decorating design. Decorating with simple curtains, drapes or shutters with this interior decorating scheme works great, but you should make sure they are minimalist in design. Depending on the type of look you are going for in the room, you could choose plain sheers or even just wooden blinds.

Take your design theme down to the floor by having matching area rugs. You should try to ensure you pick something which enhances your interior design in both color and style. To provide an attractive decorative look, why not consider short pile or shag rugs in colors like white, black or beiges?

Every design theme needs accessories, so try to choose paintings and other decorative items that set off your contemporary theme. The minimalist aura of this design approach should be mirrored in the accessories so you don’t want to pick anything that is to frilly, nor do you want to clutter up the room with too much stuff. A few simple but carefully placed items will work with your décor to enhance the design.

Lighting is a key factor for any style but you would be smart to be certain that you match yours to the contemporary style. When locating your lighting fixtures for this look, go with something that is modernistic in design and simple in line. Recessed lighting always looks good and for accent lamps you want to stick to simple wood or steel lamps with unadorned shades.

It’s not hard to add the sleek look of the contemporary Home Decorating style and it doesn’t have to drain your budget either. If you apply smart shopping techniques and look for your items at sales and even buy second hand at consignment stores and yard sales, you can save loads of money while still getting a great look!

What’s are some tips you have on keeping your house clean?

Posted By: admin  //  Category: House Staging

I have 3 children (between 3 & 6). I still know it’s possible to keep a clean house though. I go through stages. Sometimes it clean, other times… not so much. I guess I’m answering my own question, be consistent!

Just wanted to know what things you have found that make cleaning or keeping your house clean easier.

(i.e. I wash clothes according to how they will be put up, kids one load, parent another)

I first clean as I go along with whatever I am doing at the time, clean after every use of appliances etc whatever I use I clean right away then it is clean for next use

I then use household natural products to clean and never buy any store bought commercial cleaners use products you would find in your pantry such as Baking soda, White Vinegar, Lemons, even toiletries like Shave Creams, Baby Shampoo, products of this kind get use to clean and freshen my home, I also make many cleaners using the ingredients described above, no store bought cleaners as these do not clean well but have found that products I find normally in the food pantry or toiletries clean just as well and are alot safer and last the longest for a lot less money. You can also use empty spray bottles to carry around with you to make it easier to clean your home with your homemade cleaners Good Luck !

What do you think would be a good name for a fluffy gray male male kitten?

Posted By: admin  //  Category: House-Fluffing

He has long fur that’s all fluffed out all the time, gray all over except for some white on his chest and belly. He is very curious and active, very playful (as most kittens are). Kinda bumbly, but really smart. He’s a people kitty, and he loves exploring the house outside his box.

What do you think would be a good name for him?

When decorating your home do you have to have the same color scheme throughout?

Posted By: admin  //  Category: Home Decorating

I am decorating my home and I have done each bedroom in different colors and I just wanted to know if that is a sign of a bad decorator?

It depends on whether or not the bedrooms have direct exposure to other community rooms in the house. If they are on another level, that’s fine – but if they are off a hallway that leads to a family room and each one is completely different then I would keep the doors shut when company is coming.

I tend to do color charts for people who are redecorating their homes or making big changes. Get several paint chips from the store – pick out your favorites that will be throughout the main parts of the home. Then pick a other complimentary colors that work well with the main color. That way your home doesn’t look chopped up – it flows. There are many shades of each color – it’s pretty easy to find a green (for example) that goes with your other main color. Olive might work well with one palate while forest might look good with another.

Home Decorators Tips

Posted By: admin  //  Category: Home Decorating

Current info about Decorators is not always the easiest thing to locate. Fortunately, this report includes the latest Decorators info available.

Is your house and home feeling a little bit tired and jaded? Does it lack that special edge that it once had? If so you’re no doubt sick of living in a home that no longer suits you so why not convert that drab interior to something fantastic? Your home should be a place of rest and relaxation. A place for you to recharge your batteries that have been drained by todays busy lifestyles. The great news is that regardless of what type of look or feel you want your redecorated home to have there are ideas aplenty available to you for use as inspiration.

There are several important tips that you should follow for each interior or home decorating project:

1. Choose A Theme

Have a very clear idea of what you want the finished “product” to look like before you begin. Get your hands on as many Home Decorating books and magazines as you can. As you read through them you’ll find yourself drawn to one theme or style more than others. Exposure to as many decorating styles as possible is the key to success here.

2. Choose A Color Scheme

During your theme research you’ll have noticed that most decorating themes rely on specific color schemes to achieve the required results; those colors are standard to that particular decorating theme. What do we mean by this? Well for example Asian decorating styles and themes are dominated by the use of red, black and dark blue. Another example is tropical decorating themes which rely more on green, red and aqua colors. Your chosen theme will, realistically, follow the same basic pattern of using a fixed palette of colors for the entire decorating project.

3. Choose A Use For the Room

Hopefully the information presented so far has been applicable. You might also want to consider the following:

What will you actually do in the room you’re redecorating? Just because the room was originally built for a specific purpose don’t mentally trap yourself by only decorating to that particular type of room. For example if your family eats most of their meals in the kitchen then don’t decorate your dining room with a large dining table and accessories – it’s a waste of the room. It could be converted to a study, home office or even a play room so don’t limit your thinking to using any room for its original purpose – unless it suits you of course.

4. The Shopping List

Of all the items that you could potentially list here paint is the most important. Paint forms the “foundation” of any room and if you rush the paint job then everything that comes afterwards just won’t “work” in the room. Another mistake many people make is to buy the cheapest paint possible. You might save a few bucks on the cost of the tin but you’ll wind up kicking yourself later on when you realize it’s going to take 3 coats to finish each wall instead of just one – it’s generally not cost effective to buy cheap paint; it just doesn’t cover or finish as well as the more expensive brands.

Also make allowances in your budget for disposable overalls and any cleaning or preparatory materials you might need for your project. Decorating can be a messy business so prepare for the clean up operation before you even begin.

5. What To Paint With?

Another important decision is whether to use brushes, a roller or foam painting pads. Brushes have their uses for “edging out” a room – for those tiny corners. For the large surface areas it makes more sense to use a roller or paint pads. Personally I’ve found rollers to be just plain old messy and now use paint pads (some stores call them speed painters) for any large surface area that needs to be painted well and quickly. Use a roller if you really have to but bear in mind that they’re extremely messy so make sure both you (disposable overalls are ideal) and the flooring is well covered against splashes.

Don’t forget to have some fun along the way too! For all the planning, preparation and work that goes into redecorating any room or home it should still be a fun experience for everyone involved. You’ll have that added sense of satisfaction knowing that you redecorated or helped to redecorate your home with your own hands. Take some time out to relax in your new room once it’s finished – especially before you start redecorating the next room in the house.

So now you know a little bit about Decorators. Even if you don’t know everything, you’ve done something worthwhile: you’ve expanded your knowledge.

The twists and turns in Gregory Maguire’s incredibly imaginative back-story to ‘The Wizard of Oz’ makes the audiences literally gasp with delight. But not only that, Wicked is a truly heartfelt story of friendship and love. As Richard Zoglin of ‘Time Magazine’ put it, “If every musical had a brain, a heart and the courage of Wicked, Broadway really would be a magical place!”

The plot of the story is very interesting. It focuses on the witches of Oz prior to Dorthy’s arrival from Kansas . The Wizard (Joel Grey) believes in “The Big Lie” and he practices what he preaches. He makes everyone believe that the show’s heroine, the Wicked Witch of the West, is evil. Wicked is an ambitious musical and has strong themes. The comical dialogue and masterful lyrics are source of enjoyment for the parents. The fairytale is complete with cameos by the Tin Man, Scarecrow, and Cowardly Lion, while The Wizard, acts as the catalyst that ultimately turns the former friends into the witches that they become.

Great engineering work was required to stage the “Wicked”. The play’s production involved over 150 people and took almost two years to become a reality. It costed almost Dollar 14 million.Built in Calgary , Ontario the show’s complex set took over a year and a half to design. It also had to travel over 1,500 miles to the Curran Theatre in San Francisco . There is a big difference between the Wicked the musical and Wicked the novel. Actually, the novel is its source. The musical presents only pieces of it in a much simplified form. Wicked the musical puts the spot light on the story’s numerous ironies and interlaced levels of social commentary. The fiesta continues for 2 hour 30 minutes of utter magnificence. You can’t bear to blink your eye during the whole gala, for fear of missing some of Wicked’s glory! Fans of Gregory Maguire’s novel “Wicked” may criticize the changes made by stage adapter Winnie Holzman. She finds a way to send Elphaba and Fiyero into a bittersweet sunset together, and she establishes several reference points to the familiar ‘Wizard of Oz’ film that are not in the Maguire book. But most theatergoers will find Wicked well worth the big ticket price. It’s an astoundingly good show that puts its politics front-and-center, all wrapped up in a big, entertaining package.

A pre-Broadway run was opened in San Francisco at the start of 2003. It was not appreciated very well by the locals. In the original cast, Idiana Menzel acted as Elphaba, Kristin Chenoweth as Glinda and Robert Morse played the role of The Wizard. With extensive significant changes, it was reopened later that year at Gershwin Theatre (http://www.wicked-on-broadway.com/Wicked-Gershwin/index.aspx ) in New York . Morse was replaced by Joel Gray. There were assorted reviews initially but the general mood became a lot more appreciative. The tide completely turned when “Wicked” got the acclaim it really deserved. Wicked was nominated for ten Tony Awards, including the award for the best Musical. Menzel got the award of the Best Actress in a Musical. The cast also nabbed a Grammy Award for the Best Musical Show Album. This fantasy-filled musical was the winner of three 2004 Tony Awards including prizes for Best Costume Design and Best Scenic Design. Wicked also had the privilege of being the winner of 2004 Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Musical Award! The uphill effort and zealous exertion of Joe Mantello has made Wicked a true spectacle for the eyes and ears! The popularity of this musical results in long lines to buy Wicked show tickets! The only element of the production that isn’t consistently first class is Schwartz’s songs. The tunes are a mixed bag, with several bland and forgettable power ballads included with his more distinctive and finely crafted songs. Most of the music rides on the same middling tempos, and little stands out melodically.

“Wicked” proved to be a superhit. It earned back its entire initial investment by December 21, 2004. In its first year it grossed more than Dollar 56 million. The show has been playing to capacity crowds for almost every recent performance and grosses more than a million dollars every week. The show had a Dollar 14 million capitalization. The show set out for extensive national touring in 2005. Successful tours were made to Toronto , Chicago , Denver , Dallas , Los Angles, Fort Lauderdale and Hartford . In late June of 2005 a permanent production of “Wicked” separate from the national tour, opened at Chicago ’s Oriental Theatre (http://www.wicked-on-broadway.com/Wicked-Chicago/index.aspx ) with an open-ended run. “Wicked” will be the first show in decades to run on a permanent basis simultaneously on Broadway and in Chicago ’s North Loop theatre district. The show also has a heart, a brain, and the nerve to have opened on Broadway. Wicked is a must see show. The musical has created a history on Broadway. It took in Dollar 1,196,658 more than any show on Broadway! The fall of this year is fully loaded by “Wicked” shows all over the United States . Atlanta , Saint Louis , Dallas , Hartford , Tampa , Denver and San Francisco are some of the metropolitan areas where people are looking forward to see one of the most popular shows of the year. The Canadian fans too are really anxious to witness such an astonishing fiesta. Most of the fans have already booked their “Wicked the Musical Tickets”.
