Japanese designs can look extremely great in any home and they can help to turn busy rooms into calm and peaceful ones. It is worth noting that to achieve the look, it needs to be simplistic and have plenty of lighting.
Decorating your home could be something that you are worried about because you are not sure what style to go for. The problem is that there are so many different styles to choose from, it can be slightly intimidating, and especially for people who know little about decorating.
One style that you could use to give your home a new look and feel is Japanese decorating styles. The great thing about Japanese styles is that they can totally transform an empty or plain room. They can help to add peace and tranquility to any room, making it a great place to relax and it helps to calm the atmosphere and surroundings too. Also you will be amazed at how simple it could be to just add just a few of these decorating styles to your room in order to achieve the peace that is required.
All you need to do is invest a little bit of your time and energy into achieving this great look with the traditional Japanese details.
What Actually Gives It The Japanese Look?
To be able to give any room the Japanese look, it is important to know exactly what you need to achieve this. To be able to get the look, it may be a good idea to understand some of the culture which will give you a better understanding.
Japanese styles offer a simplistic look, so if you are after lots of colors and lots of designing, this is not what Japanese designs are all about. It is all about getting a nice and calming balance rather than filling it with lots of design and materials. Something that you should know is lighting is important when it comes to good Japanese designs. So to allow this, you can have the windows open to allow the light to stream through into the room. Using curtains that are both soft and light in color will allow you to have more light into the room which helps to maximize the whole look. If you have a lot of windows or at least airways, this can also give a great Japanese feel as well.
It is important to note that the details should be minimal if you want a Japanese feel to your home. Simplistic looks are what works best to achieve the look that you require and keep furniture as low as possible. The thing that makes Japanese designs what they are is through the use of lots of horizontal lines which can be in furniture, walls and any other elements that you decide to use.
So if you are after the Japanese look, make sure that you do not over do it too much or you will not get the look that you require. Do the right amount of research and try to understand a bit of Japanese culture to help you design your home.

A question for men and women?
I’m interested in knowing if you take any interest in how you decorate your home or room, and what style have you chosen for it, if so? Is there a particular look you wish you had, if not?
Some decor examples would be:
South western interior
Minimalism
Japanese
Traditional
Modern
Eclectic
Rustic
Shabby chic
Country
Bohemian chic
indian
Victorian
Pure style
and any others, I didn’t mention here.
ALSO WHAT COLORS DO YOU USE IN YOUR DECOR?
I like every style, but can’t live in every style. Right now I’m trying to redecorate/declutter for the new year. I love all my color samples, so that is a problem. Just can’t decide!
It’s funny, because my male friends know exactly how they like their decor. When I ask my female friends, they like all kinds of decor. Hmmmm.

Contemporary in the bedroom. Used browns and light blues. Also, hand painted pictures to frame.

In my living/dining room I have a lot of Asian style things and a lot of things with siamese cats. My bedroom (which I love) is decorated with all kinds of fairies, mostly Nene Thomas and Amy Brown. I have black sheers on all the windows and a big four poster queen sized bed and all black furniture. I wanted to paint the walls purple and teal but the landlord won’t let you paint the walls. My kitchen is decorated with martini glasses and vintage bar stuff and the bathroom is pink with vintage accents.

I love all the styles and all the colors but somehow when I start planning to decorate one of my rooms and I start looking for accents and paint I end up being drawn to the french country mixed with some victorian style…. I have no idea why. I tend to use a lot of blue tones- right now my living room is a beige/gold color with a muted peacock color for accents- I mix it with a few other deep tones and it seems so relaxing! I love it!
My kitchen I like the bright colors, the reds and kind of a country look.
Bathroom I went for a more modern look, pretty minimal though. It keeps it looking clean, it is SO easy to mess up the counters and everything in a bathroom- when it is cleaned and not cluttered it looks nice.
I don’t carry a theme through my house- but I do try to make the actual colors "flow" as much as I can.
Thanks for asking!

Depends on the room. Our style would be a mix of modern and traditional with eclectic thrown in. We love interesting and colorful art (Alex Gray is one). Our family room is navy and beige, kitchen is light yellow, bedroom is forrest green and a dark yellow. I love clean lines and dramatic color contrasts. Our kids rooms look like something out of a Dr. Seuss Movie (Blue, green, purple, white) for the boys and pink and yellow for the girls. I’m ever changing when it comes to color. I’m about to paint the girls room pink and tangerine and our bedroom taupe and eggshell.

I decorate country with a leaning towards primitives. I love the Early American look, and the simplicity of shaker. My bedroom has shaker elements.
My favorite piece that I own is a reproduction of an 1840 shaker clock that hangs on my bedroom wall. It was made in Connecticut and it gives me the look I wanted to achieve. I also bought a simple set of shaker boxes that sit on top of my chest of drawers. The look is simple and very pleasing. I use tans, grays, on walls, and for fabrics red ticking stripe and blue gingham.
