Crown Victoria goes into "Limp Home Mode" during snow. Ideas?

Author: admin  |  Category: Home-Fluffing

I recently purchased an 05 Crown Victoria, used, from a (Dodge) dealer about a month ago. It had 43,000 miles on it.
The car looks and runs like brand new, however a week ago it entered into "Limp Home Mode" during snow driving on the highway. The "Check Engine" light never illuminated. A small amber colored "wrench" DID come on. Traffic was moving at 40mph, and during "Limp Home Mode", the car seemed to have trouble maintaining 30mph. I didn’t get an owner’s guide with the car, so I wasen’t even sure what LHM was or why it was doing this. The next morning I took the car to Ford, and explained to them my problem. They fluffed me off, and told me not to worry. I then demanded that they look at it, they held onto the car for 2 days and never even used a scan tool !!! Then I took the car back. Yesterday I was once again driving in snow on the highway, and it happened AGAIN!

PS. All the people at the Ford dealer near me seem to be ignorant about "Limp Home Mode"

PLEASE HELP!!!

You need to get the codes read – period. Either get a cheap scanner and do it yourself, find a friend with a scanner, or get to dealership that doesn’t have their heads up their tales.

Did you get any kind of warranty? Does your state have Lemon Laws? Have you spoken to the dealership where you got the car???

Amber colored wrench?? AFAIK there’s no such light – are you SURE it wasn’t the traction control indicator? Was the car all over the road??

What leads you to believe the car was in limp mode? AFAIK _true_ limp mode will ALWAYS have the check engine light illuminated.

It sounds to me like the learn procedures need to be set. If there were a fault the MIL would illuminate.

First, contact Ford for an owner’s manual.

Second, if you have a warranty, put all your dealings with the local dealership in writing. You may end up in court if they don’t do everything they can to fix the problem and the warranty expires.

    Good luck

I live in Florida and don’t have snow but my neighbor who has a Crown Vic like yours, same age and mileage with same problem found out after several trips to the dealer that it was the transmission. It was replaced once with little success. The car was used very little but he decided to sell it.

If your car has ABS, run it with the traction control off and see if that fixes it
