When staging a home should I or shouldn’t I decorate for the Holidays?
Author: admin | Category: Home StagingJust wondering if I should or just leave it alone. I don’t know if I can handle pulling out all the Holiday stuff either after packing all my knick knacks in the crawl space….. but if you told me Christmas decorations might help sell my home… then heck, maybe it’s worth dragging them out. I think I am skipping halloween and Thanksgiving decorations though…
I guess I can’t bring out my Santa praying to baby Jesus! LOL
Your goal in staging a home is to depersonalize the home as much as possible so any prospective buyer can see themselves living there. In light of that, decorating for the holidays seems counterproductive.

There really is no point. What if the people that look at your home are Jewish? Some people don’t believe in X-mas, don’t celebrate Thanksgiving & think Halloween is evil!

I think it would be a nice touch. So long as you to minimalistic non denominational Holiday decorations as to not offend anyone.

No, for two reasons.
Reason #1: What Biggie said about offending potential buyers with different beliefs.
Reason #2: You might think your home looks adoreable with all your knick-knacks all over the place. But, a potential buyer would see this as clutter. In fact, you should go with a minimalist look when you’re potentially going to be showing your home. Too many trinkets – even family photos and such – have the psychological effect of making a house look smaller than it is.

I think tasteful Christmas decorations will help. This site actually gives you ideas for what you can do to make your home more attractive during the holidays.

What average American family wouldn’t love looking at a home tastefully decked out for Christmas? It makes them nostalgic, and it gives them an idea for just how great the house can look when the holidays roll around – I don’t know anyone who doesn’t treat their home as a show piece during the holidays. (Ever read the book Skipping Christmas by John Grisham? The book is worth reading, but skip the the movie.)
