If you don't like the professional staging fees, you are always entitled to try to stage it yourself for less cost. If the agent told you to paint the outside of the house a different color to make it more attractive, would you expect the agent to pay for the painting ? You want to sell your house, then you must do what it takes and pay for it. You expect someone else to pay for improvements so you can sell your house? Do you know any of those generous people that can help me too? Don't resent the agent their commission either.
