building a shed for my motorcycle?
i’m trying to figured out How to Build a Shed for my suzuki GS500F, i have 6 sheets of 4×8’s plywood. My bike is 31.5 inches W, 81.9 inches L, and 45.3 inches H..( i’m 5ft7 by the way).. Any body can help me with an idea. please it’ll help me a lot…
With 6 pieces of ply wood you can make a nominal 4 foot wide, 8 foot long and 6 foot high shed with a door and still have some plywood left over.
If you have a power saw handy the job will be easier. Other tools would be a screw gun (Mikita, DeWalt, etc…), hammer, and hand saw. Besides the plywood you will need 2 x4s for making a frame, 2 inch and 2 ½ inch dry wall style screws (plated to resist rust), hinges and a door latch. If the shed will be sitting on dirt, get some bricks for a foundation for all four sides (you don’t want the wood to sit on the dirt if possible).
Begin by making the frame with the 2×4s. Make a complete frame with top rails, bottom rails and corner rails. The frame will be wobbly until you start fastening the plywood. Make the each long side short enough by twice the thickness of the plywood so the end corners lap. Make the foot print (plan view) small enough so the top will lap over the sides and ends. Estimated amount of 2×4s
6 – 8ft x 2 in x 4 in
4 – 6 ft x 2 in x 4 in
You might want to get 2 extra 8ft x 2in x 4in pieces in case you need to stiffen the top and long sides.
Cut 1 piece of the plywood sheets in half in the long direction so you have 2 pieces, each 2 ft x 8 ft.
Cut 2 pieces of the ply wood to fit the ends, approximately 4 ft x 6 ft.
Use the long pieces of plywood on the sides to make a 6 ft high wall, a full 4 x 8 on top for the roof and the 2 short pieces (4×6) of plywood for the ends. Make one end the door by using the hinges and door latch.
Do i need permission to build a shed?
Do i need permission to put up a shed im my backgarden?
If you have a Home Owners Association, then probably. But even if you don’t, check out what zoning requirements there are for sheds/ out buildings in your community. It might seem like a waste of time, but going the extra step will save you a real headache later on.
I thought of a very temporary solution to me moving out of my parents house in LA.?
Even though this is very basic and silly I have thought about setting up a garden shed in my parents backyard that I could put a cott or bed in. This way I could have some privacy and space from my parents. My laptop has wireless internet. Since the wooden garden shed would have electricity I could pug in a electric portable heater.
The shed would have a concrete floor that I could put rugs on.
The only disadvantage to the shed would be no windows inside or restroom inside. I could go inside the restroom inside the house.
I’m not hand enough to install windows. The inside of the shed would have a wood panel wall and a door that is unpainted. To solve the window solution I could paint the inside of the door a color or design that is something nice to look at.
On thing that may bother me is closing the door while inside at night sleeping. I guess I could get over that.
My parents house is located in a very safe area.
The backyard is gated and fenced.
Here is another question I asked about my situation

I’m in my late 20s. We don’t have a basement in our house. This garden shed has a locking door and is very hard to break into.
This outside building is also insulated so cold air doesn’t come inside when the door is closed.
Well it’s going to be pretty ordinary without so much as a window but if you think you can handle it then go ahead if your folks agree to let you put up a shed. At worst it could be a place to go to just to have some space even if you don’t end up using it all that often. I know a guy that lives in a garden type shed on a few acres but he has it set up pretty cosy. Just remember, a shed will be pretty hot in summer and really cold in winter. Be careful about spending too much money on something that may not be worth your effort in the end.
How do I repair a broken wooden lattice that forms a kind of shed (under some outside stairs)?
The problem is that some of the wooden strips have broken off. Now, I know that I can go to a lumber store, but the problem is that the old wood is gray, weatherbeaten and covered with some moss. Can I get replacement wood that looks gray. All the wood I have seen is light brown. I am not a carpenter so sorry if the question seems elementary.
buy it new and paint it any color you prefer.
What should I know before building a garden shed in my backyard?
For my senior project, i a building a garden shed i my backyard. I was wondering what i may need to know or what questions i should be asking myself regarding this project. Where should i start??? Any advice will be appreciated!
Your first step should be to check with your city or town office. There may be restrictions on the size of a shed or you may have to have a building permit. You don’t want to get the shed built and then find out it does not meet the specifications that are required by your city.
Once you know that, that ask yourself the following:
What will I be storing in my shed? This will determine the size you want to build. Is it just for a few garden tools? Or is it for a lawn mower, snow blower, wheelbarrow, chainsaw and bicycles?
Will you be using the ground as the floor or using an elevated floor made with sturdy planks? I would suggest an elevated floor so that moisture stays away from the floor of the shed. You might want to consider placing your shed on skids – that way – it can be easily moved around the yard.
And consider using some eavestroughs on the shed and feed them into some rain barrels.
How big a door do you need? You don’t want one that is too small and find out you can’t get your lawn mower in there. Also, ensure that you can lock the door to help prevent theft.
Do you want windows for ventilation or just some vents? And if you put windows – consider putting bars in place so that vandals can’t break in.
Garden shed building help?
i’m buying a dirtbike and i would like to buy a shed to put it in so that it wont take up space in the garage or unfinished part of the basement, all i want is a shed that will sit by the house that is like this one

i dont want to pay 500 dollars so i was wondering if anyone could give me some tips, or plans and maybe a cost estimate if i built it myself
Realtively easy actually. Do you have the ability to put it against the house/ a wall/ a fence? If so it need only be 3 sided.
The material should be exterior ply to begin; and 2×4 treated, as the support/frame/sub floor bracing; material. You can use the measurement examples in that shed you linked too; or your own judgement in what relates to the size of your bike; possible storage shelving; ability to actually get into the shed with the bike; etc.
You can decide the pitch of the roof; take your measurements and apply them to framing out the floor; the uprights; the roof framing; and put that all together. Then cut your facing stock to size and angles; allowing for the pitch of the roof in the framing and facing. Using the same material; or corrugated fiberglass screen room roof panels; aluminum panels; etc. If you choose a Ply roof you can run 90 pound felt and a square of shingles. OR for cost savings just use a tarp for the roof, and the back wall.
Having the shed against a wall will aid in supporting the structure if you can attache it to the wall. The door or doors (one at each end) can be the PLY and strap hinges.

Your friend needs to build a rectangular storage shed. She wants the length to be 3 feet greater than the width, and the perimeter must be 22 feet. Find the length and the width of the shed.
l = w + 3
2l + 2w = 22
2(w+3)+2w=22
2w+6+2w=22
4w=16
w=4
l=7
Dimensions are 4×7.
thought of a very temporary solution to me moving out of my parents house. Would a femlae think I’m nuts?
Even though this is very basic and silly I have thought about setting up a garden shed in my parents backyard that I could put a cott or bed in. On thing that may bother me is closing the door while inside at night sleeping. I guess I could get over that.
The shed would only be for some nights not every night.
I could close the door. While sleeping you want it dark anyway. If I would feel relaxed enough to sleep it wouldn’t bother me if the door was closed. If I’m awake and can’t sleep than it would bother me to have the door closed.
If I listen to calm music on my Ipod for 10 minutes it puts me to sleep.
This sounds cool but many people think its very silly. Even if its just for two night- tree nights per week.
I guess being inside a building with a door with a bright painted mural and painted walls without windows could be an interesting experience.
Since this buildings entrance is to the outside I guess the door to the building has to be closed at night while sleeping.
I could put this tent heater inside the shed. Its ment for tents and doesn’t cause flames.

This sturcture would only be 100 square feet. Is has wooden windows with screens. This means that the windows are made of solid wood and have no glass inside them. If you leave the windows open you have a screen so you can look out. If you close the windows you can’t see outside.
I would use flouresant lighting inside.
Putting dry wall in is much easier than putting in windows.
Having to close the door while inside one bother me the most.
Would other people by afraid to close the door while inside a small building like this?
I’m in my 20s and can’t get a job that pays enough for me to move out.
My parents don’t allow overnight visitors.
They go to bed early and complain that I keep them up all night.
This little building could give me and my parents more space.
I would be allowed to come and go as I please and bring in overnight visitors.
Its good that you are making a plan. Have you discussed with your parents yet? Maybe your father could help you put some sort of window in? Being totally isolated from the outside world doesn’t seem like a very good plan for independence – even with your laptop, you need light from the sun. Serotonin to the brain!
would it be ok to keep chipmunks out side in a wooden shed all year round?
If they are domestic chipmunks purchased from a USDA licensed breeder, or from a pet store that got them from a licensed breeder, you should have received information on the proper care of the animals when you bought them.
If you captured wild chipmunks, let them go – it is illegal in most states to keep wild chipmunks as pets.
Tip – chipmunks chew and they burrow. You will not have them very long if you are keeping them in a wooden shed.
