PostHeaderIcon I’m building a shed, and have a question about roofing. Do I really need to use roofing felt? What is its use?

Roofing felt is what will keep things dry if you lose a shingle or have some other problem. It is cheap, and I would not omit it.

PostHeaderIcon Can I use 1/2 inch OSB for siding?

I want to build a storage shed in my back yard. Will OSB withstand the weather? I plan to seal the OSB and paint it with an exterior water base paint. Any suggestions?

Maryannalova;
I know OSB is half the price of plywood but it is really garbage and you do get what you pay for. The only way you can get this to withstand the elements in a stand alone exterior is to urethane it, face and edges with something like Helmsman. . . latex paint won’t last. That being said, and this being a relatively small project, can’t I talk you into using an exterior rated plywood like Georgia-Pacific’s Plytanium http://www.gp.com/build/product.aspx?pid=1397 and then prime/seal it with Glidden "Gripper" before painting. GP will then warrant the board for 25 years.

PostHeaderIcon How can you build a shed into a slope?

My land slopes 18 inches up over 12 feet but I don’t want to raise the whole thing up that high. Is there some kind of pertective material I can use so I can bury the back of it?

I would put in concrete block up to ground level, and then cut the shed walls so it sits neatly on the ground and the blocks. don’t try to put wood underground, even with a tar or whatever protector.

If you do insist on cheating, put roofing tar on the stuff to be against the ground, and then put 3" wide of peastones between the soil and the wood, so water can drain down below the wood. Peastones under the whole structure not a bad idea, either. That may work for some time.

PostHeaderIcon Summer house with wood burning stove?

I want to build myself a retreat at the end of my garden: A cosy summer house with possibly a wood burning stove inside. There’s currently a wooden shed there. My plans are to knock it down and build my summer house instead. What should I be aware of? And where do I stand in regards of Building Regs with the wood burner? Will I need planning permission to build the summer house?
In the UK-Bristol

safety first so make sure your summer house is fire proofed also site the stove on concrete or slabs very firmly if the s house is about the same size as yor shed i doubt if planning would be a prob

PostHeaderIcon has anyone tried tiling an outdoor wooden shed with stone effect ceramic tiles?

we normally do this kind of thing by installing an angle iron(1"x1", anchor bolted to the wooden shed) at the base thereby taking the load of the tiles on the angle iron rather than just installing them on the wood. but please repeat the angle(1" x1") after say every seventh course.

PostHeaderIcon Gray rat in trash shed & want to build it out.How do I know I’m building it out & not in?

Trash shed is attached to house and it might have burrowed into the ground.I don’t want to hurt it or get anywhere near it either. It’s BIG!

even if you "build it out" what makes you think it will go away? it likes it there. that’s home. if it’s that big it’s eating good from somewhere. unless you want to keep dealing with this problem ad infininadum (sp), plan on killing it not just relocating it. they can be very dangerous and destructive to you and all other outside animals. do you want it to confront you some dark night? rat trap-hardware store-now

if you are meaning like a 3-D modeling program to build it online…google offeres a program called sketch-up and you can download a free version and it’s super easy to use. Otherwise I’m pretty sure Autodesk offers a free trial version of AutoCAD

PostHeaderIcon how do I build the bird shed on Harvest Moon for the DS?

I have enough money to buy a chicken, but its says I need a shed before I can do this. So how do I build it??

Simple!
Call Gotz the Carpenter on your phone.
A list of materials you could use comes up:
Fodder
Lumber
Stone
Golden Lumber

Here in Harvest Moon DS, you could choose what material you want to build anything with. You need to think well because the shed could always fall during storms/blizzards/typhoons, so choose wisely!
NEVER EVER choose fodder! it is cheap but it falls easily! The best is Stone but it might cost a lot and you u usually need to collect many (usually more than lumber), so go with lumber!

Then he’ll ask whether you’ll collect the material or you want him to provide it for you, and yes, it does cost way a lot more if you ask him to provide it for you.

After you made you’re choice he’ll tell you that he’ll come the next day and it will take him 3 days to make it.
When he does come the next day, you get to choose where you want him to build the shed.

If you do choose to build the shed with lumber, there is always a chance it will break down during a storm/typhoon/blizzard (it’s just luck) and if your chickens are inside then they’ll die, lowering everyone’s Friends points by a bit and, most importantly, you’ll lose your chickens!
So here’s a little trick you could do, I know that some people tell you to put your dog or cat inside, but let me tell you, I tried that and my cat vanished…no seriously it did, so, make sure the day before the storm (storm/typhoon season starts by the end of summer, so keep your eyes open throughout summer and autumn/fall and blizzards obviously are in winter) you carry all your chickens to your horse’s shed, it NEVER falls. I always do that in my Harvest Moon: cute (the girl equivelant of HM:DS) and once, the shed did break down but my chickens were safe and I kept putting them out to graze (inside a fence)- I nearly never use the shed unless it rains.

PS: My cat vanishes in my Harvest Moon:DS (sad :( )

Goodluck with your game!
Hope that helped!~

PostHeaderIcon I am looking to buy a wooden shed at 16 x 10

I am looking to buy a wooden shed at 16 x 10. Where would be the cheapest place in the UK to find one preferably under £1000.

by the time you pay for shipping and such you might be better off to hire a handy man to build it on site and to your liking.
just get a few prices and speak with a few carpenters

good luck
