Can I use 1/2 inch OSB for siding?

I want to build a storage shed in my back yard. Will OSB withstand the weather? I plan to seal the OSB and paint it with an exterior water base paint. Any suggestions?

I know OSB is half the price of plywood but it is really garbage and you do get what you pay for. The only way you can get this to withstand the elements in a stand alone exterior is to urethane it, face and edges with something like Helmsman. . . latex paint won’t last. That being said, and this being a relatively small project, can’t I talk you into using an exterior rated plywood like Georgia-Pacific’s Plytanium http://www.gp.com/build/product.aspx?pid=1397 and then prime/seal it with Glidden "Gripper" before painting. GP will then warrant the board for 25 years.

yes you can,but you better keep a good coat of paint on it, but if you really want it to last…i’d use vinyl siding

OSB will buckle under weather. With a latex paint, you may have a chance, but oriented strand board is used for interior builds. If trying to keep inexpensive, try a Tyvek wrap or felt paper painted.
